A two-day workshop · September 29–30, 2026
Convergent
Intelligence
AI hardware co-design and the future of intelligence.
01 / The premise
The next era of AI will be designed together.
As AI’s computational and energy demands accelerate, progress requires more than capable models. This workshop brings researchers, engineers, open-source developers, and industry partners together to rethink how AI systems are designed, built, and deployed.
Convergent intelligence
Algorithms, hardware, software architectures, design tools, and data resources developed in close coordination—enabling AI that is more efficient, sustainable, accessible, and scalable.
02 / Program
Program
Two days of conversation across the AI computing stack, from algorithms and data to tools, systems, and novel hardware architectures. Full session-by-session detail is on the Indico timetable ↗.

University of Illinois Urbana-ChampaignPanel: Workforce Development for the AI / Quantum Hardware Era
Goal: Identify the skills, institutional structures, and cross-sector partnerships needed to build a workforce that is fluent in both AI and quantum technologies — and positioned to drive discovery at their intersection.
Key Questions:
- What does the ideal training pipeline look like? — Where are the biggest gaps today in producing researchers and practitioners who can work fluidly across AI, quantum hardware, and domain science, and how should universities, national labs, and industry collaborate to close them?
- How do we keep training in step with a fast-moving hardware landscape? — As AI accelerators, neuromorphic chips, and quantum devices evolve rapidly, which foundational skills will stay durable, and how can curricula, internships, and industry–academic partnerships adapt quickly enough to meet real hiring needs in the region and beyond?
